No School Tuesday, January 16 due to inclement weather

January 2, 2018

We will host our next Parent Advisory Team and Site Council meeting on Thursday, January 18 from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Hesston High School library.

Parent Advisory is an invitation for all parents and guardians of students in Hesston Schools to participate in discussions around important topics related to the vision for our school district.  We have joined Parent Advisory with Site Council to maximize our dialogue and discussion during these quarterly sessions.  So far this school year, we have shared ideas on our Post-Secondary Success Measures and our initial implementation of Individual Plans of Study.

On January 18, our focus will be on strengthening partnerships between our schools and our community.  This includes maximizing the resources we have in Hesston and providing our students and teachers with opportunities to engage with professionals and businesses.  In addition, we want to explore how we create more authentic learning experiences for our students that allow them to apply their skills and knowledge in real world ways.

We hope you are able to join us for this important conversation that connects to our Good to Great Framework in USD 460.  We ask that you notify our central office at 620-327-4931 or by emailing if you plan to attend.

USD 460 is committed to a model of continuous improvement and growth.  This is best illustrated by our District Improvement Framework which is a one page visual that includes the following components:

- Student Success Outcomes
- Shared Purpose
- Building, School, and District Practices
- District Pillars

This improvement framework is still in draft form.  Our staff continues to develop our vision and work is currently ongoing with the Board of Education and other stakeholder groups in our community including our Parent Advisory Team which is open to any parent/guardian of a k-12 student in USD 460.

Ultimately, we want to further develop our focus on giving every single child every opportunity to become the very best of which he or she is capable.  To make that more than just words on a page is our challenge, and we have many of the foundational elements in place to ensure we are progressing towards success in each of our classrooms, across our buildings, and throughout our entire district.

There is ongoing opportunity for feedback and analysis of our goals and plan from our entire school community.  As is always the case, please contact me anytime should you have any questions or thoughts about this topic or anything we do as a school district in Hesston.
